The dark painted entrance door pictured here is framed by stone. The contrast defines the doorway while allowing the texture of the surrounding wall to remain prominent.
Look at the whole entrance
For a new entrance, consider the whole approach to the house. The door is seen with its surround, steps, canopy and nearby windows. A colour sample is more useful beside those materials than viewed on a screen alone.
Panel proportions and the position of any glazing can change the balance of the door. Decide how much daylight the hall needs and whether privacy is a priority, then discuss those needs alongside the appearance.
Bring the hardware into the design
Hardware completes the composition. Bring examples of the handle, letterplate or knocker you like, and mention anything you want retained. The agreed specification should identify the fittings and finish before manufacture.
