Terms & guarantees

Please read these terms alongside your quotation and agreed order details. The two-year JM Joinery guarantee below applies to new orders; it does not reduce any longer guarantee already agreed for an existing order.

JM Joinery Hereford Ltd · Company No. 06442572 · VAT No. 783586968

1. Building Regulations and certification

Where installation is carried out by JM Joinery and the work falls within the scope of Building Regulations, the installation will be self-certified under the Certass competent person scheme and a certificate will be issued on completion.

Where the works are exempt from Building Regulations, including listed buildings or where agreed with the local authority, no certificate will be issued. In these cases, it remains the customer’s responsibility to ensure that all necessary permissions and approvals are in place before works commence.

JM Joinery is responsible for compliance with Building Regulations only where certification is being provided.

2. Permissions and listed buildings

Where the property is listed, it is the customer’s responsibility to obtain all necessary permissions, including Listed Building Consent, before works commence.

This quotation is based on the design and specification requested or approved by the customer. JM Joinery does not accept responsibility for ensuring that the design, appearance or specification meets planning, conservation officer or listed building requirements unless explicitly agreed in writing before order.

Any changes required after acceptance of the quotation, whether by the customer, conservation officer or local authority, will be treated as a variation and may incur additional cost and lead time.

3. Installation assumptions and exclusions

This quotation assumes normal installation conditions.

Due to the nature of existing buildings, particularly older or listed properties, openings and surrounding structures may be out of square, uneven or otherwise unsuitable. Any additional work required, including but not limited to structural alterations, making good, repairs to surrounding fabric, or addressing hidden defects, is not included unless specifically stated and will be charged as an extra.

Unless specifically itemised, the quotation does not include:

  • structural alterations or remedial building works
  • repairs to surrounding masonry, plaster, timber or finishes
  • hidden defect rectification
  • asbestos removal
  • lintel or cavity tray remedial works
  • internal or external reveal decoration

Installation includes fitting using compriband, silicone and mortar, with external sealing. Cover trims will be used where required. Final hand-painting is limited to areas affected by installation only, unless otherwise stated in writing.

4. Glazing and specification responsibility

Glass supplied and fitted is based on the agreed specification.

JM Joinery does not accept responsibility for the suitability of glazing types in relation to planning, listed building or conservation requirements unless confirmed in writing before order.

Where glazing is carried out by others, JM Joinery accepts no responsibility for incorrect specification, installation or resulting non-compliance.

Where glass is not supplied by JM Joinery, glazing sizes will not be provided and the customer must ensure compliance with all relevant requirements, including CE marking obligations where applicable.

5. Structural calculations

Structural calculations are not included unless specifically stated in the quotation.

All work is carried out in accordance with current good practice and relevant industry guidance.

6. Payment and cancellation rights

A 14-day cooling-off period applies in accordance with applicable consumer law.

Where performance of the contract has begun before expiry of the cancellation period, the customer may be required to pay for goods and/or services already supplied.

Notice of cancellation is deemed served on the date it is sent or posted. Cancellation must be made by email to info@jmjoinery.co.uk or in writing to:

JM Joinery Unit 3, Knockerhill Farm Callow Hereford HR2 8BP

JM Joinery reserves the right to instruct a collection agency to recover overdue or outstanding debts. All recovery costs incurred will be payable by the debtor at the agency’s prevailing rates.

7. Our two-year guarantee

JM Joinery provides a two-year guarantee against defects in the materials and workmanship of the joinery we supply and any installation we carry out, within the scope of your agreed order. It applies to the delivery or installation location recorded in your order.

The two-year period starts on completion of our installation, or on delivery or collection for supply-only orders. Any separate product-specific manufacturer guarantee is additional and is subject to that manufacturer’s terms.

  • Timber joinery: manufacturing and workmanship defects, including joint failure or distortion caused by such defects.
  • Sealed glass units supplied by us: failure of the hermetic seal causing misting between the panes.
  • Locks, hinges and moving hardware supplied by us: manufacturing or workmanship defects.

For a valid claim under this guarantee, we will assess the problem and arrange an appropriate repair or replacement of the affected part or item without charge. This does not limit any remedy available under your statutory rights.

8. Care, maintenance and making a claim

Regular care starts at handover

Timber joinery needs appropriate care throughout its life, including during the guarantee period. Cleaning, checking coatings and seals, and maintaining hardware help preserve its appearance and operation. Follow the instructions for the timber, finish, glazing and fittings actually supplied; exposure and use affect how often attention is needed.

Routine cleaning, lubrication, redecoration and normal wear are maintenance rather than guarantee work. Damage caused by misuse, accidental impact, unsuitable cleaning products, failure to follow the supplied care instructions, or incorrect installation or alterations by others is not covered by this commercial guarantee. These exclusions apply to damage caused by those circumstances, not to an unrelated defect.

Seasonal movement and changes in the appearance of natural timber do not necessarily indicate a defect. If a door or window becomes difficult to operate, or you notice water ingress, coating damage or misting between panes, contact us so that the cause can be assessed.

After two years

The JM Joinery commercial guarantee ends after two years. Ongoing servicing, adjustments arising from normal use and redecoration may be chargeable. We will explain any proposed charge before work is agreed. A problem is not automatically treated as maintenance simply because two years have passed.

How to contact us

Contact JM Joinery Hereford Ltd at info@jmjoinery.co.uk or 01432 357357, or write to Unit 3, Knockerhill Farm, Callow, Hereford HR2 8BP. Tell us the order or installation address, what has happened and when you noticed it. Photographs and your quotation or other proof of purchase will help us assess the issue.

Please contact us promptly after discovering a problem so that we can discuss the next steps and avoid further damage. If the property changes ownership, the remaining JM Joinery guarantee can transfer with the joinery; retain the original order details.

Your rights and other cover

This guarantee is in addition to, and does not affect, your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable law. Those rights may apply after the two-year guarantee has ended. Separate manufacturer warranties and any insurance-backed guarantee for a qualifying installation have their own scope and terms. You can still contact us about goods or services we supplied.

9. Additional important notes

Where fitting windows or doors, if lintels or cavity trays are absent or defective, additional costs will apply if remedial works are required.

For pre-hung doors, the fitter is responsible for correct installation and final adjustment. Bolt receiver plates may not be fitted. Doors are manufactured square with locks fitted, and frames must be adjusted to suit. Any defects must be identified before installation into the opening.

Paint-finished items are supplied in white unless otherwise agreed in writing. Colour matching is available, but slight variation may occur. Colour samples are available at additional cost. Raised grain is inherent in softwood joinery. Spray-finished joinery may require brush-applied touch-ups following installation.

No finishes, fitting, glazing, or additional items are included unless expressly itemised in the quotation.
